Your Hosts: Al & Sheila Carter

on the spectacular South West Coast
of Vancouver Island!
(just a 45 minute drive from Victoria)

Originally built in the 1940's, you will find Willow Cottage tucked under a huge weeping willow tree. Extensively renovated and tastefully decorated in 2000, Willow Cottage offers a romantic retreat, home-away-from-home or relaxing private getaway.

You will feel the tranquility of this peaceful place as soon as you enter. The cozy sitting-room offers TV/VCR/DVD, gas-fireplace and comfortable sofabed for extra guests - the perfect spot to relax after a day on the trails. The well equipped kitchen includes stove, microwave, most small appliances, washing machine/dryer and has a breakfast bar and separate dining-area - also a gas BBQ under the willow where you can cook up your catch and dine "el fresco" if you prefer.

Forget the city and daily commute as you soothe your soul in the marble corner jacuzzi-for-two. To create the relaxing atmosphere of the queen size bedroom we added a vaulted ceiling & french-doors leading out to a private, screened, flagstone patio overlooking the garden - shaded by graceful willow branches.

Note: Complimentary WIFI.  Ceiling fans and electric baseboard-heaters are provided for your convenience and are installed to ensure a comfortable stay whatever the season.

Just a mile away in the village you will find everything you need to stock your Willow Cottage kitchen  - you will find two grocery stores with excellent  fresh produce, deli's, bulk foods, bakery and meat departments, top quality baked goods at Little Vienna Bakery, local fish, health food store, weekend markets, etc.  The late afternoon sun hits the terrace perfectly and creates the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and a casual BBQ.

Willow Cottage is located just one mile from Whiffin Spit Beach, Sooke Village Centre, the Boardwalk and within walking distance to restaurants.  From the cottage, less than a  5-minute walk take you to Sooke Harbour Marina where fishing charters can be arranged.  Through working with them for many years we can highly recommend www.salmonexcitement.com   and  www.tandtfishingcharters.com  and  www.sookebnb.bc.ca/fishing.html  all very reliable and experienced charter fishermen and within easy walking distance of Willow Cottage.  Three resident pods of Orcas visit us here in Sooke/Juan de Fuca Strait - traditionally from May until October.  Whale Watching/Marine Wildlife/EcoTours charters onboard a 12 person high speed Zodiak are scheduled daily in season  and depart from a local dock - weather permitting.  In the fall we are excited to see the return of the Humpbacks to the waters off Sooke after a thirty year absence and also occasionally transient Grey Whales and Minke pay us a surprise visit.  Harbour & Elephant Seals,  Stellar & California Sea Lions, Dolphins and Harbour Porpoise are also common sights out on the water.  For Bird Watchers - an unforgettable experience is the trip from Sooke Harbour to Race Rocks Marine Protected Area  - a birders paradise!  You can take a peek at Race Rocks on live web-cam at www.racerocks.com  From Willow Cottage you can take a casual 10 minute walk to the Government Wharf or 5 minutes to Jock's Dock for fresh local crab and shrimp in season or rent a trap and catch your own off the crabbing dock at the Rotary Pier/ Boardwalk.

We are close to many natural beaches and surrounded by the rugged, pristine beauty of the Ocean, Mountains, Hiking & Biking Trails, Rain Forests & Natural Harbours. Please check out our main website at: www.whiffinspitlodge.com for detailed information. We are happy to help you plan your day if you wish - there are endless possibilities depending on how energetic (or not!) you are feeling! Bike and Kayak Rentals are easily arranged closeby at the Marina.

We wanted to thank you for our wonderful week in Willow Cottage.  It was a delightful week! What a great blend of beautiful scenery, delicious food and wonderful adventures.  Most importantly though, we appreciated your warm hospitality - we have never experienced anything like it before.  Thank you very much for the great breakfasts & tour guide service.  We  enjoyed a bottle of Southern Vancouver Island wine with our daughter the other night  - it brought back memories and we really enjoyed it!
